The IDEAS Collaborative is a cooperative venture that uses research and engagement strategies to increase participation, identify and grow sustainable audiences, develop targeted marketing strategies and uncover opportunities for cooperative activity and resource sharing. The IDEAS Collaborative is made up of 43 local arts, culture and entertainment organizations, five local funders, and the community at large - the lead consultant is Surale Phillips of Decision Support Partners.

The funding collaborative has retained the services of nationally-known consultant Surale Phillips of Decision Support Partners. Ms. Phillips work involves extensive research, surveys, and workshops that identify and characterize current and potential patrons. The primary research method is geo-demographic patron database and market ana lysis that includes visual maps. Initial research provides all participating organizations with insight into cultural patrons by studying the behavior, lifestyles, and trends of thousands of households who are connected in some way with Onon dagaCounty arts, culture, and entertainment as well as those who are not.

In addition a community-wide survey of current and potential audience members will collect the direct voices and feedback of community residents and add texture to the Phase I research. A survey, and accompanying small and large scale community forums, will assess resident awareness, perceptions, motivators, and barriers to cultural participation and provide each participating organization with an opportunity to speak directly to their patrons and the community.

Phase I will culminate in December 2010 with a report to the field that will allow participating organization to understand the basic characteristics of their patrons, potential and opportunity for them to expand their reach into the market, as well as the overlap of their patrons with other organizations in the project.
